The Archery Club was founded on the 10th November 2001 by Albert Crouth and his wife Joyce. Along with half a dozen of their friends they met when ever they could at Ashington High School. The club became GreenLane Disabled Archers. They moved to Newbiggin Sports Centre as the hall cost was less and the venue was suitable for the purpose. Keeping the name the club then expanded and an able bodied club was started. With Albert’s relentless enthusiasm in

fund raising and constant pushing to make the club, the members club, run by them for them, has made it one of the most successful archery clubs in the country. Albert had an uncanny knack for getting money. He was a great character and had a way to bring out the

best in everybody. More than just a coach, he was loved by everyone and sadly died in 2006 after a long struggle with cancer. The club still holds true to Albert’s values which are being recognised by archers from outside our own club, approaching GreenLane Archers knowing our coaches will help in any way. The club has honoured Albert for everything he has done by holding an archery shoot attributed to him and known as The Albert Crouth Memorial Trophy.
